10 starter lesson
lesson 1 basic grips
TEACHERS GOALS
*  sport of badminton
*  backhand " thumb" grip and forehand " V " grip.
*  importance of reach

EQUIPMENT
*  balloons  -  at least one for each pair.
*  rackets   -  one for each pair
*  shuttles   -  one per child
*  DVD player

INTRODUCTION 10 MIN
 live badminton match or video clip of badminton / singles and doubles
 Teaching points: sum question about sports
variation : open question - what is badminton? closed question - is badminton a fast game?

warm up :5 min to balloon tap.
warm up :10min to balloon tap rally game.

safety:        keep pairs well space apart.begin exercise on teachers signal only /or blows whistle.
variation:    change direction using chases if appropriate. begin with working space.

MAIN ACTIVITY 1: BACK HAND WITH BALLOON (THUMB) GRIP 10 min (video 59)
* teachers are demonstrate the thumb grip.
* working with a balloon and racket, children ask to keep balloon up the air with backhand and thumb grip moving up and away from the body


MAIN ACTIVITY 2: BASIC  GRIP WITH BALLOON 10 min (video 60)

* teachers are demonstrate the "v" grip
* working with a baloon and recket, children ask to keep balloon up the air with basic grip moving up and away from the body



MAIN ACTIVITY 3:  GRIP CHANGE WITH BALLOON 10 min (video 62)

* teachers are demonstrate the changes between the grips.
* working with a balloon and recket, children ask to keep balloon up the air three times with thumb three times basic  moving up and away from the body.

summary and cool down ( 5 min)



* pupils stretch out fully on the floor and discuss lesson.
* Teacher reviews main points of lesson.

IMPORTANT TEACHING POINTS
* badminton is volleying game . over a net ,hit hard and soft change direction jump, fast movement etc.
* backhand forehand grip.
* hit with elbow away from the body and move the racket activity towards the shuttles.
